Marijuana and blood pressure
Does Marijuana affect blood pressure?
Yes it does, for some it temporarily increases blood pressure, like exercise does. For others, it seems to decrease blood pressure over time. Due to this plant being illegal for so many years, and still is in most places, it has hindered medical study, at least in North America being done to get more definitive answers.
Some of the best answers to this question come from social media, actual testimonies from Cannabis users. I discovered to my shock (and pleasant surprise), that Facebook has a large collection of groups dedicated to Cannabis, either in CBD hemp form or product from Marijuana. I have joined a few of them myself, to stay in the loop.
Good luck getting definitive answers from your Doctor,
unless he or she uses Cannabis as well! A close family member of ours, uses a flora of pharmaceuticals, for high blood pressure, diabetes, and other related conditions, a total of 10 at last count. He once asked about marijuana to his Doctor, and got the most shocked expression from his MD and a non committal answer. Patients are often treated like prospective drug addicts when they ask about Marijuana. Yet, the drugs that conventional medicine prescribes to patients every single time, has a list of 20 side effects for every supposedly beneficial effect.!
Check out the Mayo Clinic‘s information on high blood pressure management…you won’t see any definitive alternatives there in the form of plants… What you will see is a very long list of pharmaceuticals that make BILLIONS of dollars yearly from their products for the companies that make them.
The medical community that we trust or are supposed to trust,
a community of scientists and doctors do not have a definitive answer to treat or prevent heart disease and the associated high blood pressure and the associated strokes. I believe the real answers lie in overall nutrition and in our Earth’s medicinal plants. The answers do not lie in more pills.
When research is lacking, regarding Cannabis and blood pressure, we can go by testimonies from people who have been using cannabis for years. Pharmaceutical companies have been suppressing research by supporting the criminalization of Cannabis here in North America, the USA in particular. Israel has been doing research and using Cannabis as a medicine since the 1960s!!! Do we hear about it in the media? No? Why not?
In a Harvard study, most research showed that though unmanaged high blood pressure can result in heart failure and strokes, cannabis does not seem to increase such risks. The Forensic Science, Medicine and Pathology Journal published a report in 2006 stating “Despite the drug’s extreme popularity, reports of cannabis-related stroke and myocardial infarction are so rare as to still be reportable.”
It’s important to mention
that most of the North American studies on marijuana use and hypertension have focused on THC rather than CBD. Does Marijuana lower blood pressure? For some, THC in Marijuana worsens episodes of anxiety and increases heart rate which may have some peripheral effects on blood pressure levels. CBD however, appears to reduce blood pressure in subjects both at rest and while stressed.
What has also been apparent through the testimonies that I have been reading is that different strains of Marijuana (and there are many), have varying degrees of THC and or CBD. Therefore it seems that some strains might be better for some health problems than others.
Since it seems that THC might be too stimulating for someone with a heart condition, then CBD would seem to be an excellent choice for it’s healing Cannabinoids. Hemp is a major player in the production of CBD. Marijuana, due to it’s many different strains, has a combination of both THC and CBD, to varying percentages. The conclusion that I have come to, is that for someone with a heart condition or high blood pressure, using Marijuana strains with lower THC and high CBD content would be the logical choice.
What is the effect of Cannabinoids or CBDs on the human body? I have a technical explanation on the Hemp page.
The healthiest way…
to partake of Marijuana’s healing components is through VAPING, CANNABIS OIL and other CONCENTRATES and last but not least, EDIBLES.
SMOKING comes with some of the same dangers as tobacco, irritating the lungs and bronchial tubes.
In closing, remember that the politicians that decide what laws we the people have to live under, are there because of you. You (and me) are the people that should have the choice as to what we put into our bodies. You’ve heard the saying ‘follow the money’? What that means is that when someone, whether it be a company or politician, prevents you from having something that just might be good for you, ask yourself why? What’s in it for them?
Follow the money….Do you really think Pharmaceutical companies care about you or me? What they really care about are their profits, bonuses and salaries at the end of the day, right? That is the way of the world but we don’t have to keep our mouths shut and just accept it, do we?
